BGV Karlsruhe

Harmonious coexistence of business activity and sustainable environmental protection – that is the guiding principle of the BGV insurance association. The association's award-winning, light-flooded head office in Karlsruhe is a refurbished building from the 1970s. The main building now satisfies the Green Building guidelines and is one of the most environmentally-friendly office buildings in Germany. One of the diverse factors that contribute to the building's sustainability is the sophisticated lighting system: a central control unit makes sure the rooms are only lit when necessary. Moreover, highly efficient light sources have been used exclusively throughout the building – for example Office Air LED luminaires from Nimbus in the offices of the board members or suspended Modul R luminaires in the conference rooms. On the whole, the lighting is a major factor in the redesign: for example a central atrium surrounded by sprawling office landscapes now forms the centrepiece of the building. Furthermore, generously glazed facades allow daylight to penetrate the interior of the building.
