Ijburg Office Building, Amsterdam (NL)

A new district named Ijburg is being built by the City of Amsterdam on seven artificial islands in the Netherlands' Lake IJssel. By the time it is due to be completed in 2020, it is expected that a total of 48,000 people will be living and working in Ijburg. The spectacular Ijburg office building was opened just recently on the island of Steigereiland. The interior of this new commercial building is largely lit by energy-efficient Nimbus LED luminaires.

The LED lighting concept creates a unique atmosphere in all of the corridors and public areas – one example is the impressively dimensioned 14 meter high atrium, where 15 Modul R luminaires seem to hover in space as flat discs of light of varying size. As they do not require maintenance, LED luminaires are very well suited for installation at such heights.
The building consists of two wings and houses two separate office areas, one with four and the other with five floors, together covering a total area of 11,580 square metres. The lighting concept was designed by Arpalight Projectverlichting from Bavel in collaboration with the interior designer Pieter Zeegers. "It goes without saying that everything, including the lighting, meets our customers' wish for the state-of-the-art. We decided in favour of Nimbus because of the extremely appealing form, the ultra-modern design and the elegant charisma of their hi-tech luminaires," said Pieter Zeegers.

In the corridors and other openly accessible spaces, the owners and the architects chose the Nimbus Modul Q36 luminaire. Besides their design, these luminaires are also characterized by a further decisive feature: their low energy consumption, which stands at a mere 9 watts.
