Piccolo Grand Hotel, Pizzo (IT)

"Having spent our professional lives building and furnishing luxury hotels all around the world, as well as providing the related consulting services, we felt a growing desire to run our own small, luxurious hotel." Jutta and Heinz-Werner Maden have converted an 18th century Italian palazzo into a modern boutique hotel. The four-star establishment has twelve rooms and suites. It is situated in the historical heart of the lively town of Pizzo and offers a breath-taking view over the bay of Sant’ Eufemia on Calabria's Tyrrhenian coast on the Mediterranean Sea. The interior designers placed a great deal of importance on the conservation of resources in all aspects of the project: solar collectors on the roof provide warm water which is subsequently reprocessed and used as graywater for flushing the toilets. Energy-saving luminaires help to reduce power consumption. Nimbus LED products were among those chosen for the lighting because of their "design and cost-effectiveness". Suspended Modul R 120 XL luminaires provide cosy lighting in the bedrooms of the suites and Spirito Santo luminaires accentuate the wall surfaces of the palazzo in the hotel lobby.
