Illuminated: LED luminaire in the Frank Stella exhibition in Jena
Our <product:office-air-led-stehleuchte - Office Air LED> is being shown in just the right light as part of an exhibition in Jena entitled "Mit dem Blick des Künstlers" ("From the Artist's Perspective") featuring the well-known artist Frank Stella. Our floor-standing luminaire spreads its radiant light inside the walk-through sculptures COCOON_FS, which also serves as an entrance pavilion, designed by the architects Julia and Göran Pohl from Erfurt, Germany.
This fascinating exhibition at Jena's Historischen Straßenbahndepot (Historic Tram Depot) can be seen until December 4, 2011. "Don't refurbish whatever you do!" was the motto coined by Frank Stella, inspired by the unusual surroundings. The depot has a charm all of its own and reminded him of one of his old studios. That is the reason why the Jena exhibition exudes so much workshop character, with the artist himself having chosen the exhibits. This is the first time that so many of his recent works from the last few years have been shown in one place. Stella has not only compiled extracts from those series that have characterized his work in recent years but also considered the surroundings when making his selection. Jena therefore represents a very special exhibition of work, shaped on the whole from the artist's perspective.
Frank Stella, who was 75 in May, has contributed to the revolutionization of art since the late fifties. In 2009, President Barack Obama awarded him the National Medal of Arts, the highest honour for artists in the USA, for his services to art.
