Light and Building 2014 – new luminaires
Lady Jane and Sister Jane – Balancing act
In 1966, a certain Mr. Jagger went down on his knees to his sweet Lady Jane and proclaimed himself her servant. In the year 2014 nobody need throw themselves at the feet of our Lady Jane but of course they are free to do so if they wish. The luminaire head virtually hovers above the ground and is effortlessly adjustable. It almost seems as if the strong fabric cable is all that prevents the luminaire from floating away. What Mr. Jagger could never have imagined in his wildest dreams, despite consciousness expanding little helpers, is that there is another Sister Jane to enhance the technicolour vision.
Lady Jane does not require a switch thanks to touchless control and dimming.
Eloise – Head-turning beauty
In 1968, a certain Eloise must have turned Barry Ryan’s head, causing him to dedicate the following lines to her: “My Eloise is like the stars that please the night, the sun that makes the day, that lights the way”. Almost five decades later, we have fashioned our own shapely Eloise and turned her pretty head.
The slender 16-millimeter tube interlocks with the ultra-slim LED luminaire head, which can be continuously rotated around its own axis. Eloise can be continuously dimmed by means of a touch-sensitive surface. The luminaire also has a useful, built-in going-to-bed function that steadily dims the luminaire within a period of three minutes.
Louis et Marie – Ornament and crime
Marie and Louis not only share their names with their historical ancestors Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI but also the way their bodies have been „machined“. In the 18th century this was a rather rudimentary process involving the guillotine and a scaffold but nowadays CNC milling machines allow a much finer „execution“ that is more aesthetic than destructive in nature.
In 1896 Adolf Loos was fascinated by the words of Louis H. Sullivan: „It would be greatly for our aesthetic good if we should refrain entirely from the use of ornament for a period of years, in order that our thought might concentrate acutely upon the production of buildings well formed and comely in the nude.“ These words inspired Loos‘ 1908 polemic „Ornament and Crime“, in which he argued that functionality and the absence of ornament were signs of a higher cultural development insofar as they saved human effort. However, this conclusion ignores the second, more important part of Sullivan‘s quote: „If we have then become well grounded in pure and simple forms we will reverse them... We shall have learned, however, that ornament is mentally a luxury, not a necessary“.
Marie und Louis are each available in four sizes. The matt acrylic glass clearly identifies the luminaires as Nimbus products.

Force One – May the force be with you
In some places, a few simple tricks with lightsabers, a seemingly hopeless struggle against death stars and guys in masks with laboured breathing are all it takes to achieve cult status. We have endowed our Force One with a few technological super powers including a sophisticated sensor system that any Jedi knight would have loved to have on his rather rudimentary lightsaber. Not to mention the lumens per watt or DIN-compliant workplace lighting. The Alliance of Light has found a new champion, one to be found leading the front line, right next to the edge of the desk.
DThanks to Force One‘s elegant, curved construction, the base of the luminaire disappears
under the table and the light moves nearer to the task area. We have placed the entire control system in the base of the luminaire, thus giving the Force One a uniquely clear and slender silhouette.

Office Air LED – Less is more. Much more.
Our development staff have become obsessed with the idea of realising a light-emitting perpetuum mobile. The first fruit of their efforts was the completely reworked Office AIR LED family with performance data that admittedly deviate somewhat from the aforementioned aim but which are nevertheless pretty impressive. It is probably better if we don't tell our developers that they will have to totally disregard not only the basics of quantum mechanics but also Newton's energy conservation law in order to reach their aim.
Although unchanged in its appearance, the lighting technology inside the Office Air LED has been given a complete workover. New LED packages with up to 8690 lm and optimised control electronics make it one of the best performing and most efficient LED workplace luminaires in its segment.

Modul Q – Canopy of light
The luminaires in the Modul Q family have always been uncompromising. After all you cannot lead a revolution by being weak-kneed. In 2014, the new generation of the three largest Modul Q luminaires has returned more radical than ever before exactly ten years after the development of the first Nimbus LED luminaires. Chamfered edges and wide corner radii lend them an appealing slenderness; their efficiency has been increased yet again making them a veritable canopy of light.
Modul Q suspended luminaires are available in three sizes up to an edge length of 1200 x 1200 mm. By means of "Light Control", the new luminaires can also be controlled and dimmed using a smartphone.

Modul L – Blade of Light
If we suppose for a moment that darkness and shadow had the consistency of something extremely hard, our Modul L 196 would cut through them like Hattori Hanzo's blade in Kiddo's hand. However, unlike in Tarantino's movie, no blood flows – just an abundance of light in its most beautiful form. Some may comment that we are fighting with unfair means – but just because Hanzo never succeeded in aesthetically combining three blades, it needn't mean that the same applies to our Modul L 196.
With a power requirement of just 40 watts, the Modul L 196 is the perfect alternative to conventional louvre luminaires. At a height of just 18 mm, it blends in perfectly with the surrounding architecture. Moreover, it meets the requirements of DIN EN 12464-1.

Rim R – No alchemy
Medieval attempts to make gold from lead were all doomed to failure for one reason: they had no electricity. Today we not only make gold from aluminium but also from titanium, graphite or silver. That is real alu-chemy. And to make these metallic rotating bodies shine, we turn to electric power, albeit always correctly dosed in tiny, almost homeopathic quantities.
The flat body of the light made of translucent acrylic glass – held by an almost invisible mounting – seems to hover in the circular element composed of high-quality aluminium.
Roxxane – Bright cookies
In 1978 Sting appealed to his Roxanne: "You don't have to put on the red light." However our Roxxane Office Neon looks particularly appealing in red. Having said that, the same applies to our entire Roxxane family of luminaires as to Sting's Roxanne: "You don't have to sell your body to the night". Although our Roxxanes are all bright cookies that turn night into day, they are also outrageously good looking when seen by the light of day – not to mention their extraordinary lithe motion.
Whatever the version, Roxxane impresses with its finely calibrated friction joints, intuitive and touchless gesture control as well as its extremely manoeuvrable LED luminaire head.

Light Control – Wireless Light Control
Our high-quality LED luminaires can now be simply and flexibly controlled and dimmed via smartphone or tablet thanks to the latest technological developments based on Bluetooth 4.0. In order to make use of this intelligent technology, you need nothing more than a free app (iOS) and an easy-to-integrate control unit for Nimbus LED luminaires. The adaptation of the casambi app for Nimbus can not only be used with our new products but also with virtually any item from the entire Nimbus LED portfolio. This convenient solution can also be conveniently retrofitted to your existing Nimbus luminaires.
(available for Android and other platforms from summer 2014)
Light Control independently establishes a protected local Bluetooth network connecting all of the integrated luminaires. Luminaires and predefined groups of luminaires can be centrally and conveniently controlled in different rooms and at different levels via smartphone or tablet.
