Nimbus Original
"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." (Oscar Wilde)
When we were a rather small but highly innovative manufacturer, it may have been flattering to be copied by some competitors.
But it also was somewhat painful because the luminaires we developed had quickly become established as the archetypes of the still young LED luminaire and the core design of this "original" threatened to be become watered down as a result of this plagiarism.
This was inacceptable as Nimbus had placed all its eggs in one basket by courageously and determinedly changing over to LEDs at an early stage and because the imitations endangered our most important asset, namely the jobs of our staff in our Stuttgart office.
As a clear response to show that we saw the matter somewhat differently, we answered in typical Nimbus manner with a creative "replique":
In magazine advertisements and on posters, colleagues from different parts of the company have presented themselves since then as "originals". Our dispatch manager A. Kachel was the first campaign original – and he shared the viewpoint of Oscar Wilde, but only to a limited extent. All Nimbus originals present themselves as proud and self-confident employees, who not only stand behind the products but also, when necessary, protectively place themselves before our products and before the Nimbus brand!
Real originals, in fact.
